— OUR STORY —
In 1990 we started growing buxus plants at our home in Ashburton, New Zealand. The cuttings grew easily and we used them in our newly established garden.
Inspired by an article in Gardens Illustrated in 1995, and being keen gardeners, we decided to have a go at establishing a buxus nursery. We had a large number of topiary plants already and we transplanted them on an acre of land at Mt Somers. We chose Mt Somers because of the higher rainfall which suited the field grown plants.
When we moved back to Christchurch in 2003 we brought the topiaries with us and established our topiary nursery in Prebbleton. Although the plants were field grown they transplanted extremely well into pots. The topiaries are now between 20-30 years old with some exceeding 3 metres in height which is extremely rare for buxus in New Zealand. All tall plants are grown with a central stem which gives us options when choosing shapes as the plants mature.
